About: Noise to crawl into . . .

Description: Singer Sarah Tebbe, drummer Adam Renchen, bassist Jeff Camacho, and pianist/guitarist Eric Pilcher describe their music as “cabarock,” a combination of cabaret and rock. The quartet’s debut album, For the Stranger (October 2010), is a genre-bending, eclectic mix of songs, its coherence stemming from the band’s intimate musical conversations and literary lyrical depth. Tebbe’s lyrics evoke vivid images of the melancholy, sensual, revelatory, and rapturous moments one might see played out in the darker or “stranger” corners of the landscape, and she often sings endearingly of the misunderstood outsider. To underscore these images, band members showcase their talents on a variety of instruments, from piano and banjo to sandpaper and front porch stomps, which creates an indie rock sound inspired by cabaret, blues, folk, and the burlesque.
